The Gozo Tourism Association and the Gozo Business Chamber in a joint statement said that they welcome positively the Memorandum of Understanding signed recently between the Ministry of Health of Malta and the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, of Queen Mary University, for the setting up of a medical school at the Gozo General Hospital. “The interest to set up a medical teaching institution is being envisaged as an encouraging step forward to stimulate the socio-economic development on the Island of Gozo.”
Both the GTA and the GBC, representing the various sections of the Gozitan tourism and business sectors, firmly believe that such a medical school, “will not only elevate the status of the Gozo General Hospital, but it will also brand Gozo internationally in the medical sector.”
The Gozo Tourism Association and the Gozo Business Chamber, stated that they are “confident, that the setting up of a medical school on Gozo will open up new horizons, not only in the medical sector, but Its multiplier effect will be beneficial to the whole economy on Gozo. It will definitely support all businesses on Gozo in mitigating their oscillating performances, whilst definitely creating new job opportunities.”
“To this end, both Gozitan constituted bodies fully support this initiative, not only underlining the importance of this development, we also insist that the opening of this facility is an obligation towards the socio-economic growth for the benefit of the Gozitan island,” the statement concluded.
