This weekend Gozo’s newest art gallery has its official opening in Qala’s pretty church square. Friday evening’s inauguration of ‘The Gallery by Visionism,’ was attended by an intimate reception of artists, business owners, and patrons of the arts and was opened by the Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo, the blessing was carried out by Father Charles Buttigieg.
Proprietor and internationally published photographer Ian Scott Moyes commented, “when we first moved to Gozo from the UK a year ago we were stunned at the amount of talent on the island for such a small population. Now that we have our art gallery open we have the opportunity to represent that talent both locally and internationally. We hope we can do it justice.”The gallery will feature the very best of contemporary art, predominately by local artists, and opened with paintings by Christopher Saliba, Audrey Mercieca, Derek Roberts, Amanda Friend, and Mary Rose Saliba; etchings, sculptures and jewellery by Hermine Anna Sammut; pen and ink artworks by Graham Gurr; chalk pieces by the late Aleksander Matic; ceramics by Barbara Attard Pettett; woven and metal wall hangings by Jackie Roberts and Pat Holtom and photographic images by Rob Smith and Ian Scott Moyes.
In addition to the art exhibition, ‘The Gallery by Visionism’ also incorporates Ian’s photography studio, Visionism Photography. The gallery website will feature an on-line store where art can be purchased.
Opening hours for the gallery are Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00am – 12.30pm and 3.30pm – 7 pm.
