Agreement on restoration & upkeep of historic sites in Gozo

An agreement has been signed between the Ministry for Gozo and the NGO Wirt Ghawdex, whereby the latter will be able to employ a full-time employee to carry out maintenance and restoration works on a number of historic niches and other sites in Gozo.
Wirt Ghawdex is a Gozitan NGO which is very much active in the preservation and promotion of historic sites in Gozo and has under its care a number of important sites in Gozo through a management agreement with the Ministry for Gozo.
The sites managed by Wirt Ghawdex are the Gunpowder magazine, sally port and battery at Cittadella, the Tower at Mgarr ix-Xini, Santa Cecilia Chapel and Dar il-Gvernatur at the entrance to Victoria.
Recently, through another management agreement signed with the Ministry for Gozo, the NGO has been entrusted with the management of the war shelters at Cittadella. Wirt Ghawdex, through the support of its volunteers, opens these sites for the enjoyment and appreciation of the public.
The agreement has been signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Gozo and Mr Franco Masini and Mr Giovanni Zammit President and vice-president respectively of Wirt Ghawdex in the presence of Gozo Minister Dr Anton Refalo.
The Minister praised the work being carried out by Wirt Ghawdex in favour of the historic heritage of Gozo and said that this agreement is another proof of the trust that the Ministry for Gozo has in the work of this organisation.
