Youth spot inaugurated, Gozo Regional Youth Council at advanced stage

The ‘Youth Spot,’ was officially inaugurated on Saturday, in Zebbug Gozo, by the Minister for Gozo, Dr. Anton Refalo and the Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport, Stefan Buontempo.
The project was financed by ‘Agenzija Zaghzagh’, the National Youth Council and the Local Zebbug Council under the project ‘Kunsill Lokali Zaghzagh 2013.’
The members of the Local Youth Council of Zebbug acquired funds for the project submitted by them called ‘YC2 – Youth Connect Community,’ chosen among 22 localities last year, it was the only project submitted from Gozo.
These stakeholders involved said that thanks to this type of project, it strengthens the interest by Gozitan youths to become more involved as citizens and actively take part in local politics.
“Schemes and initiatives are being launched that let our youths meet together, and discuss how to improve the quality of life in the community,” Parliamantary Secretary Buontempo said.
He stressed the Government’s commitment to “work shoulder to shoulder with young people by enacting their ideas for the welfare of the community. The young person has the energy, enthusiasm and ideas but often does not have the necessary tools to make his vision a reality.”
Dr Buontempo mentioned that thanks to the various schemes and projects initiated aimed at youths such as Erasmus Plus, €500,000 for Gozitan football clubs, the inaugurations of various grounds and landscaping, as well as youth spots inGozo, the Government has really offerd the necessary tools in order that Gozitan youths may continue to make their values count and to have more active participation in the management of their village.
Gozo Minister, Dr Anton Refalo stressed that Gozitan youths are a key priority on the agenda of the Ministry for Gozo. He said that for this Government young Gozitan people are concidered as the centre of society.
The Minister announced the setting up of the Gozo Regional Youth Council is at an advanced stage, with the statute already finished. He added that for the first time a legal framework will be given to Gozitan youth to enable their voice to be heard.
Through the establishment of the Gozo Sports Board and the Regional Youth Council, Dr Refalo said that the Ministry for Gozo, together with these stakeholders, will be able to plan and improve policies in these areas for the island of Gozo.
