This concept is a new way to attract foreign investment to the island, through sales of typically Gozitan properties. I wonder if the Government will proudly stamp ‘Only Made in Gozo’ on the apartments that are proposed for one of Gozo’s remaining unspoilt beaches at Hondoq?

The Government and Mepa seem powerless to refuse the planned destruction of this beautiful bay.

I have read this twice now and I still don’t understand what the ‘Minister for Gozo’ is talking about. However from past experiences I would say that everyone needs to keep a very close watch on anything connected to this ‘Only Made in Gozo’ concept when it appears in the press. Am I saying that I don’t trust them? Yes!

Just another marketing gimmick. With only one aim: TO SELL.
And we all know what selling implies… you lose a lot to often gain little.
And why do we have a private firm (Saphirre Real Estate) involved at Government level?
Pete,I agree with you, on the Hondoq project. A disgrace.
And what about all these ugly buildings that keep popping out all over the island and which remain empty. No one willing to rent nor to buy any!!!!
But it i said -and sad- that “it keeps the economy going”…. Beats me…

It is with relief that I now feel reassured as I could not make sense of this rambling either.
No coherent statement of aim, objectives or methods. No evidence of previous success and exactly what is this ‘tourism niche’ that already exists?
‘Only made in Gozo’ that is an obvious statement, as is anything made here.
      Hardly a USP is it?
But please do not misunderstand me, I love this island and living here.

      Dear All,

Reading your comments, I have to explain the concept so that it will be clear to all your concerns. Sapphire Real Estate has been working on this project since September 2011 which unfortunately had to be stopped abruptly because the residence scheme was stopped for a year with the previous Government. For this concept Sapphire Real Estate was awarded the best practice and innovative idea by the European Network of Female Entrepreneurship Ambassadors. So let me explain exactly what this is all about .

We made an intensive research about the architecture, the balconies, the maltese stones and the skills used to build them, there’s nothing like it in the world and Gozo is different too from Malta, that’s why Only Made in Gozo. We are targeting potential investors to invest in our old heritage homes which are empty and depleted on both islands. The fact that the Maltese Islands market is small, we are encouraging the investors to buy these heritage homes and save them. We organize specialised property tours including accommodation in Gozo to view these properties which the proud owner can buy a value added property which is a Heritage home. Each new owner will be having a certification that the property he bought is an authentic Maltese Heritage home and its energy benefits are certified by a qualified Engineer. Really and truly these benefits have been existing since they were built. The aim of this concept is to save and get these beautiful houses back to the future and the benefit of foreign direct investment whilst we get niche tourism especially in winter for these tours. Should you need any further clarifications, please don’t hesitate to ask. Meanwhile if you have a heritage property for sale, we are interested in marketing your property internationally and join our concept.

The Government is supporting this idea because it generates the economy for Gozo by getting indirect tourism and finally, the buyers will save these by renovating them and enhances the environment.
