The Ministry for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties has launched information kiosks for consumers and businesses.
The Ministry said that this is a pilot project through which consumers and businesses may get information on their rights and obligations according to the law. These information kiosks were an electoral pledge of the present Government.
During the launch, Minister Dalli spoke about the importance of consumer education. She said that education on consumer issues should start from a young age both within the family and at schools. It is a lifelong process. This is in fact the scope of these kiosks.
Dr Dalli said that particular attention will be paid to the more vulnerable consumers so that they will also have enough knowledge about their rights.
Minister Dalli spoke about the investment which needs to be done at the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA). She said that an emphasis will be made on strengthening human resources in the education and public information areas within this entity. The information kiosks will be managed by the MCCAA.
The MCCAA information kiosks will be found at different commercial centres in Malta. More information may be obtained from the MCCAA through its freephone line 8007 4400.
