'Youth Gozo' brings the Gozitan voice to the forefront during a weekend of eventsThe Gozo University Group said today that it is pleased with the success of the series of events held last weekend, organised by the GUG, in collaboration with Agenzija Zaghzagh for the 2013 edition of the annual ‘Youth Gozo’ initiative.

“The Gozitan voice was brought to the forefront during a debate that took place between 15 and 16-year old students and a subsequent conference dealing with the themes of active citizenship and EU representation,” the GUG said. 'Youth Gozo' brings the Gozitan voice to the forefront during a weekend of events“The involvement of younger students in the first event provided sound encouragement for potential activists in youth organisations both locally and internationally.”

During the conference, MEP candidates Dr Kevin Cutajar, Clint Camilleri, Stefano Mallia and Cyrus Engerer shared their personal experiences and the different influences on each of their political goals, while expressing their thoughts on the role of younger generations in the European community and the relationship between EU representatives and the youth of Malta and Gozo.

This gave rise to a discussion between participants, followed by short presentations by the GUG president Ryan Mercieca and a representative of Agenzija Zghazagh.

These events, the Group said, together with a cultural exposition of diverse voluntary organisations held on Friday evening, “served as an important landmark in GUG’s constant work towards a stronger Gozitan identity.”

The Goup added, that this was evident through the increase in the number of participants from previous editions of Youth Gozo.

GUG concluded by saying that it hopes that the outreach of such initiatives enables students and young workers alike to strive for an active role in forming a better future.
