Readers Letter - “The recent NGO press release concerning Hondoq stated that they had become aware of further changes that had been made to the 2002 draft version of the GCLP, without consultation – changes that made it easier for developers to build in ODZ areas.
In particular it pointed out that the Qala Creek project went against the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Protocol, to which Malta is a signatory.
Malta, as host to the present conference in Floriana concerning the implementation and enforcement of Environmental Legislation, could lead by example by declaring that the Qala Creek project will not get approval (in accordance with all the recommendations) and that Hondoq will become a National Park for everyone to enjoy for generations to come.
This, as opposed to Malta and Qala Creek being showcased at next year’s conference, as an example of what not to do.”
