Joe Fenech wins Gozo Hospital ‘Worker of the Year Award’

The Minister for Health, Dr Godfrey Farrugia, has said that the policy of the Government is that the Gozo General Hospital will provide a first class health service which Gozitans deserve, and that it will continue to move upwards to become a teaching hospital.
The Minister was speaking whilst attending the ‘Worker of the Year Award’ at the Gozo General Hospital. Minister Farrugia thanked all the hospital staff for the work that they do and said that everyone working in healthcare should be proud of their service to the community.
Dr Farrugia congratulated all those who were nominated for the ‘Worker of the Year Award’ and also this years winners, the winner of the ‘Worker of the Year Award,’ Joe Fenech, a nursing officer in the CCU and the winning team of the year, the Sant Anna Residence staff.
Also nominated for ‘Worker of the Year,’ was Mary Agius, short stay ward nursing officer; Savio Bonnici, nursing aide at the Geriatric Mens Ward; Cettina Grech, Psychiatric nurse on the short stay ward and Joe Vella, nursing aide on the long stay ward. Two other teams were also nominated, the Kitchen Staff, and the Psychiatric Social Work Services.
In his speech for the occasion the Minister for Health said the health care professionals are seeing the humanity of each patient, ethics between the workers themselves and also between the worker and the patient and thus those in the profession really are a profession that cares
The Minister went on to say that the hospital will be managed wisely, with transparency, open governance and also, most importantly, accountability .
Also present for the evening was the Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo, the Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Aging, Franco Mercieca, MP Justyne Caruana, as well as other distinguished guests and employees of the Hospital .
The evening was concluded by the reading of poems, music and also features on the workers and the work carried out at Gozo General Hospital.
