Tourist arrivals and nights spent rise in Gozo and Comino

Total arrivals and nights spent in collective accommodation establishments during July increased by 3.8 and 3.6 per cent respectively when compared to the corresponding month last year, the National Statistics Office said today.
Total registered arrivals in Gozo and Comino increased by 4.4 per cent to 8,491. On the other hand, total nights went up by 8.0 per cent to 38,676.
Total arrivals in collective accommodation establishments in Malta and Gozo during the month under review rose by 3.8 per cent when compared to the previous year’s levels, reaching 152,444. Total number of nights spent also went up by 3.6 per cent to 1.1 million.
Despite these increases, total guest nights in 5-star and 4-star hotels declined by 2.8 and 0.4 per cent respectively. On the other hand, guest nights in 2-star hotels, 3-star hotels and other collective accommodation establishments advanced by 25.1, 11.9 and 12.7 per cent respectively. The largest share of guest nights was reported in 4-star hotels, accounting for 461,356 nights, or 44.1 per cent, of the total.
The average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments remained on par with last year, at 6.9 nights. During the month under review, the net use of bed places in collective accommodation establishments amounted to 83.2 per cent, up by 1.4 percentage points when compared to the corresponding month in 2012.
This increase was also recorded in almost all categories, with the exception of 5-star hotels, which declined by 3.8 percentage points.
Total arrivals in Malta numbered 143,953, a growth of 3.8 per cent over July 2012. An increase of 3.2 per cent was also recorded in the total nights spent in Malta. The average length of stay in Malta was similar to 2012 levels. Furthermore, a rise of 1.1 percentage points in the net occupancy level was recorded.
On a national level, there were 159 collective accommodation establishments active during July, with a net capacity of 18,422 bedrooms and 41,145 bed places. On average, each establishment had 2.2 beds per room
