Solemn Mass for Temporary Profession of Anita-Jane Cachia

This morning H.L. Mgr Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo, is presiding a Solemn Mass at St George’s Basilica, during which Anita-Jane Cachia, a 27-year old hailing from St George’s Parish parish, will make her Temporary Vows in the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart.
Anita-Jane was born in Victoria, Gozo, on 21 January 1986, the eldest daughter of Frank and Josephine Cachia, she received her primary, secondary and post-secondary education at the State Schools in Victoria.
Later Anita-Jane followed a two-year course in Foundation in Care at MCAST, Malta. Anita-Jane worked in the field of elderly care, and as a carer at the Children’s Day-Care Centre at Fra Diegu House, Hamrun.Anita-Jane joined the Franciscans of the Sacred Heart on June 14, 2009. She received her initial formation within the Congregation’s Novitiate at Dar Betanja Frangiskana, Msida. Here she did two years of postulancy followed by another two years of novitiate, which she commenced on September 17, 2011.
Over the last two years she continued to prepare herself for religious life, in deep discernment about the spiritual life of a Franciscan Sister of the Sacred Heart.
Now that she has successfully concluded her novitiate, Anita-Jane will profess her Temporary Vows, promising to live according to the Evangelical Counsels of obedience, chastity and poverty. For the next five years, she will continue to discern her call and grow in intimacy with the Lord, by living the specific charism of the congregation.
At the end of this period, she may decide to fully join the Congregation by making her Solemn Vows.
The Franciscans of the Sacred Heart, locally known as is-Sorijiet ta’ l-Istilla, have their mother house at Palm Street, Victoria. They were founded in 1880 by Dun Guzepp Diacono, a priest from St George’s parish, who found great help in a holy women who, together with him, became the founder of the congregation: the Servant of God Madre Margerita De Brincat. Virginia, as was her true name, hailed from Ta’ Kercem and was baptised at St George’s parish church. Today, her Beatification Process is in a very mature stage.
A Vigil of Prayer for youth and adolescents was held yesterday at the Oratorju Don Bosco chapel, organised by the Youth Diocesan Commission. Anita-Jane gave a short testimony, while Sr Josephine Xuereb, Provincial Superior, spoke about the history and spirituality of the congregation.
