The Ministry for Gozo said in a statement this afternoon that it welcomes the news of the increase in the number of passengers that crossed to Gozo last weekend to celebrate Our Lady of Victories Feast that took place in Xaghra.
“The Gozo Channel company registered a record increase compared to previous years,” the Ministry said.
“According to official figures announced by Gozo Channel, between Saturday, the 7th and Sunday, the 8th of September, there was an increase of nearly six thousand passengers on the same period last year, as well as an increase of over a thousand vehicles crossing between Malta and Gozo.”
The Ministry pointed out that “this is an encouraging sign for the Gozitan economy which is dependent on trade between the two islands and to this end the Ministry will continue its work to promote the island both locally and abroad.”
The Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo, said that he “congratulated Gozo Channel and its leadership, under the direction of Chairman Joe Cordina, on the success achieved and how the company is run, helping it to overcome the financial challenges it inherited.”
