Children’s allowances to be paid 3 weeks early – Minister

The Minister for Social Solidarity Marie Louise Coleiro Preca said today that the next Children’s and family allowances are to be paid to Maltese and Gozitan families three weeks early, to alleviate the pressure on parents at the start of a new school year who have to buy uniforms and books.
The Minister said that the idea had come through Government public consultation meetings held earlier in the year. The allowances are anticipated to be paid next Saturday instead of in October.
25,000 children from more than 17,500 families will benefit directly from this early payment. The Minister added that there are also 23,000 other families receiving a supplementary allowance who will also benefit from this measure.
The Minister said that this small change will make a big difference to our families. The Children’s Allowance, Foster Care Allowance, Disability Allowance and Supplementary Allowance, which in total amount to 7.5 million euros.
