Large crowds visit Victoria for the Feast of Santa Marija

Victoria celebrated the Feast of Santa Marija on Thursday, many hundreds of Maltese travelled across to Gozo to enjoy a day on the sister island.
Events included ‘Il-Wirja ta’ Santa Marija, the annual traditional agricultural exhibition, held over two days at the Villa Rundle Gardens. The prizes were presented on Thursday morning by the President of Malta, Dr George Abela.
During the afternoon the traditional horse races took place in Republic Street, this event always draws large crowds of both locals and tourists. The prizes were presented at the end of the races by The Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo.For those who wanted to spend Santa Marija quietly relaxing by the sea, then Xlendi was the place to be, where restaurants reported a good trade through the day.
