The Gozo SPCA will be holding street collections this week Volunteers will be out and about with collection tins in all the villages in Gozo including Victoria.
The Gozo SPCA will also have a stall at the Santa Marija Agricultural Show on Thursday morning, from 6.30am until about 10.30am. The stall will be in the football ground adjacent to Villa Rundle Gardens, the same place the dog show will be this year.
Vistors to the stand will have the opportunity to chat to the volunteers, ask any questions about the animals they have for rehoming. as well as make a purchase from the vast selection of dvds and books. They will also be engraving ID tags.
Collections will be taking place on the Gozo Channel ferries between Friday, the 30th of August and Sunday, the 1st of October.
Every year the association’s costs increase, it has been actively involved in the caring for rescued and abandoned animals in Gozo for almost 30 years, all the work of caring for the animals as well as the raising of funds, being undertaken by volunteers except for one employee who is seconded from the Gozo Ministry.
As well as treatment for sick and injured animals, the society carries out a neutering and spaying programme for stray dogs and feral cat populations, runs an ongoing re-homing project from the Gozo SPCA Centre in Victoria and works closely with local schools to encourage a better awareness of animal care.
The Gozo SPCA currently has 6 dogs, which includes Joey seen above, and 10 kittens available for rehoming, plus Trimix a dark brown lab x who is living on the streets at the moment.
