Carved silver pelmet inaugurated at the Gozo Cathedral

The Gozo parish Cathedral has inaugurated an elaborately carved silver pelmet, which was installed above the titular painting last Tuesday by volunteers.
The silver pelmet was recently blessed by the Gozo Bishop, Mgr. Mario Grech. The silver grade weight amount to almost 50 kologramm. It measures 3.40m by 1.20m in length and width respectively. The pelmet was sponsored through the generosity of the Cathedral parishioners.
The coordination for the pelmet implimentation project was entrusted to Fr. Joe Calleja. The pelmet artistic design and layout was directed by the sculptor Renzo Gauci, while the sculptured wooden base was executed by Joe Aquilina of the Fgura Queen’s Furniture. The silver cover mount was completed by the silversmith John Bartolo assisted by Jason Farrugia.
The suspended light blue embroidered in gold leafs valance was sown, on a voluntary basis, by the seamstresses Maria Apap, Marlene Portelli and Miriam Bonnici.
