WasteServ’s ‘Collect and Win' lottery on plastic bottlesWasteServ’s ‘Collect and Win’ is a random lottery draw taking place every 3 months, which members of the public can enter by depositing plastic beverage bottles at WasteServ’s Civic Amenity sites.

Launched in August of last year, the Collect and Win campaign aims to encourage increased recycling of plastic bottles. Plastic is one of the least desirable waste streams to enter the landfill as it can take hundreds of years to degrade.

The campaign also aims to raise awareness and usage of WasteServ’s Civic Amenity sites, where all types of household bulky refuse, recyclable waste as well as domestic hazardous waste such as paint, expired medicines and neon tubes can be deposited.

So far, following a successful first year of the competition, around 52,000 tickets have been distributed, which represents a total of 520,000 plastic bottles having been deposited for recycling, or an average of 10,000 bottles per week.

The competition will now continue with a prize draw every 3 months. Prizes for the second year of the campaign include weekend breaks at the Downtown Hotel, Gozo, and vouchers sponsored by The Point, Mdina Glass and Arkadia Group.

To participate, plastic bottles must be taken to any Civic Amenity site. These are located in Hal Far, Maghtab, Mriehel, Luqa and Xewkija Gozo.

Civic Amenity sites are open Monday to Sunday from 7.30am till 5.30pm. One ticket is given for every ten bottles.
