Gozo’s Leone Band continued its 150th anniversary celebrations last week with a repeat performance of the 6th edition of ‘Leone Goes Pop,’ which took place at Menqa, Marsalforn,
Singers Chiara and Deborah C, together with the Leone Band lead by Colin Attard, and presenter Valerie Vella, entertained the very large audience, it was standing room only including in the adjoining restaurants.
As is now customary, the Leone Band attaches a noble profile to the Marsalforn edition of Leone Goes Pop, a collection was held during the evening, which amounted to €1,300 and the proceeds will be donated to Puttinu Cares.
This sum is added to other collections for charitable deeds, which the Leone Band has been conducting during several of its anniversary celebrations.
Following on from the Marsalforn concert, the Leone Band will be presenting ‘Leone150,’ the Jubilee Concert, on Friday, the 9th of August, starting at 9.00pm
This will be a gala concert featuring the Leone Band, Maltese tenor Charles Vincenti, baritone Alfred Camilleri and pop singers Pamela Bezzina and Mario Caruana. The event will celebrate the 100 years of the great cantata hymn of Santa Marija, composed in 1913 by Orlando Crescimanno, affectionately known as Una Gloria, as well as the Leone Band’s own sesquicentenary (150 years).
The Programme for the evening will range from classical opera to contemporary music, the concert will take the audience on a 150-years-long musical journey, ending with spectacular evergreen classics.
The Society said that this will be first time a pyrotechnical show, synchronized with live music, has been produced in Gozo, as the Leone Band premieres Jubilee Spectacular, a medley for band and fireworks.
The Jubilee Concert will be held in Republic Street, in front of the Aurora Opera House. The Society said that it will be a red-carpet night, with dignitaries and distinguished guests expected, together with party members, supporters, locals and tourists.
Seating is free of charge, but reservations are highly recommended on 21562974, firstname.lastname@example.org or at the Leone Band Club.
