Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis, Parliamentary Secretary for Competitiveness and Economic Growth visited MaltaPost Head Offices premises where he was greeted by MaltaPost Chairman Mr. Joseph Said, Chief Executive Officer Mr. Joseph Gafa, members of staff and the management who explained the various business processes and operations of the company, which is regulated by the Malta Communications Authority.
The diversification of MaltaPost’s business was among the main themes discussed on the visit. The Parliamentary Secretary congratulated MaltaPost for strengthening its eCommerce business as well as its next step in entering the low cost financial and insurance industries.
The Parliamentary Secretary noted with satisfaction the work on the Tanseana project, where MaltaPost is currently developing a state-of-the-art document management centre in Xewkija Gozo.
This centre will offer physical and electronic archiving, printing and scanning facilities thus allowing business to make better use of their sometimes limited resources. This initiative is one step forward in facilitating economic growth and quality jobs in Gozo.
He explained that MaltaPost has an important role in strengthening Malta’s eCommerce services, especially to provide packet import and export services at internationally competitive prices. “Whilst ordinary local mail has not registered significant increases in recent years, the same cannot be said for the demand for parcel mail, which has continued on an upward trend year on year. A positive service provided by MaltaPost which complements eCommerce is the SendOn service.”
