Most countries have a number of similar festivals in various cities and it’s now Gozo’s turn to hold its own ceramics festival.

Many of the best Maltese and Gozitan ceramic artists will be displaying the various techniques used in pottery in the centre of Xlendi. These will include works on the wheel, sculpture modeling, throwing of pots on the potter’s wheel, painting on ceramics and the interesting raku firings.

Public participation will be one of the main attractions, while a special collective exhibition of ceramic artworks and sculptures, will draw many art and craft lovers, both local and foreign.

Animators will be on hand to help the children present join in the fun, there will be live music and a performance by one of Malta’s renowned violinists.

The aim of this festival is to offer ceramic artists, collectors and working potters, the chance to demonstrate their art to the public at large, increasing awareness and the appreciation of one of the world’s oldest arts.

The practical demonstrations during this memorable evening will show the skills and techniques of each artist, on specially mantled stands set to the spectacular backdrop of Xlendi Bay.

Each ceramist will be given his own workspace, from where he can engage in discussions with the public about his work.

During the festival there will also be a comprehensive display of ceramic products on sale.

The festival, which is taking place on Saturday, the 27th of July, gets underway from 7.00pm onwards and is organised by the Gozo Culture Office in the Ministry for Gozo together with the Xlendi Administrative Committee and supported by the Directorate for Tourism & Economic Development in the Ministry for Gozo.
