Gozo cultural weekend commemorates tragic 1551 siege

To commemorate the anniversary of the tragic Siege of Gozo that occurred 462 years ago, in July 1551, the Culture Office within the Ministry for Gozo is busy preparing two big events which will take place this coming weekend.
On Friday, the 12th of July, in the suggestive environs of the Gozo Citadel, Victoria, the well known actor Mario Micallef will present the monologue scripted by Alfred Palma, highlighting the turbulent but colourful life of one of the most debated artists of all times – Michelangelo Merisi di Caravaggio.
The interpretation, which will be delivered in Maltese, will be performed in Ta’ Rikkardu’s courtyard at the Citadel and will commence at 9.00pm.Then on Saturday, the 13th of July, the Gozo Culture Office will host two renowned Italian sopranos and a tenor, at the Kempinski San Lawrenz Hotel, in San Lawrenz, which starts at 8.00pm.
This ensemble will perform a concert themed “Lirica, che passione,” an unmissable invitation for opera lovers. The four Italian protagonists of this night are Simona Para and Maria Cioppi (Sopranos), Claudio Rocchi (Tenor) and Laura Pasqualetti the pianist, who is also the artistic director of the event.
