The hundredth anniversary of the the Circolo Gozitana is being celebrated on the 1st of July and to mark the occasion it will be presenting an operatic concert by the Gozo Choir, Chorus Urbanus.
Mro. Dr John Galea, Head of the Department of Music at the University of Malta and a name synonymous with artistic excellence, will lead the the Chorus Urbanus with a selection of some of the best-known operatic pieces.
The concert will be the Circolo Gozitano’s gift to society, as it celebrates the centenary since its inception on July the 1st, 1913.
The Circolo Gozitano is one of Gozo’s oldest organisations. Founded by the some of the island’s best professionals, the group aimed at promoting Gozo’s unique identity while providing a setting for convivial fellowship of its members.
Throughout the years, the Circolo has organised several activities of artistic, cultural, and educational nature, the most renowned being the Gieh Ghawdex award, given every year to some of the best contributors to the island’s society.
The celebration ‘Operatic Concert’ is taking place under the watchful eye of the Banca Giuratale: the Gozitan’s oldest seat of Government, on Sunday, the 30th of June, 2013, at 8.00pm, in Victoria’s main square, ‘It-Tokk.’
Everybody is warmly invited to attend this commemorative evening
