The embellishment work undertaken by the Gaia Foundation at the Peace Grove, situated near Ghan Tuffieha Tower, has been inaugurated by the Minister of Sustainable Development, the Environment and Climate Change, Leo Brincat.
Present for the occasion were the Italian Ambassador to Malta, the New Zealand Honorary Consul and representatives of Australia, Germany and the United Sates of America, as well as a representative of the EU Commission and representatives of fellow NGOs Majjistral Park, BirdLife Malta and Nature Trust.
Following the introductory speeches, Gaia Director Dr Rudolf Ragonesi led a tour of the nursery and the Ghajn Tuffieha Watchtower. The group then walked to the Peace Grove, where the Minister addressed the crowd and also participated in a tree planting ceremony.
The foreign dignitaries and members of NGOs also planted trees and plants (lentisk, silvery ragwort and yellow poppy).
The event was concluded with refreshments at Gaia’s Elysium Centre. The Gaia Foundation said that it would like to thank all the volunteers who made the Peace Grove look so pretty and to all those who participated in the event.
