Seher il-Punent 2013 draws large crowds to Gharb village

Seher il-Punent has been attracting large crowds to the village of Gharb this weekend. The annual event is organised by the Gharb Local Council with the collaboration of the Ministry for Tourism; Parliamentary Secretariat for Culture and Local Government; Ministry for Gozo; and the Malta Tourism Authority,
The festival was opened by the Minister for Gozo, Anton Refalo on Friday evening and this was followed by a traditional Dinner at Pjazza Zjara tal-Madonna.
On Saturday evening there was a spectacle of events which included a Tug of War Competition, carnival dances, local singers and performances by local talents.
The main attraction of the evening was a ‘West Meets Pop & Movies’ concert by Ghaqda Muzikali Vizitazzjoni under the Direction of Mro. George Apap and a show by popular entertainers Gorg u Pawlu who also hosted the evening’s entertainment, which was closed off with a live concert by the Run Band.
On Sunday morning the programme included the production of largest Gbejna, last year’s gbejna weighed 104 kilos, a motorcycle show and get together 4th edition and folk entertainment by the Aurora Folk Group.
On Sunday afternoon visitors enjoyed Carnival in Spring and a marathon of dancing and singing by various Maltese and Gozitan participants.
The evening will continue with the Tug-of-War Competition finals and a spectacle on stage featuring local singers and dance companies.
The highlight of the evening will be the Abba Dance Show and a live concert by Cash & Band.
Also on Sunday there is the opportunity to join cultural guided tours at the Visitation Basilica and Ecclesia Mater Visitation Museum at 6.00pm. The Museum is part of the Gharb Collegiate and Basilica complex and houses a permanent exhibition of Sacred Art.
All activities are being at Pjazza Zjara tal-Madonna and are Free of Charge. Children’s Corner with animators will be available during all days of the festival while various Food and Beverage stalls will be available on Saturday and Sunday.
