Mgr Joseph Gauci has received from the Superior General of the Franciscan Sisters of the Heart of Jesus what they described as “a joyous news.” The General Postulator, Padre Gianni Califano, has informed the General Curia of the Franciscan Congregation that the nine Cardinals assembled at the Sacred Congregation for the Causes of Saints at Rome have unanimously decided in favour of the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Mother Margherita DeBrincat.
His Excellency Bishop Mario Grech was also informed of the news and is in continuous contact with the General Postulator, Padre Gianni Califano.
St George’s Parish said that this has been a very important step towards the Beatification of this Foundress, Virginja De Brincat, co-foundress of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, who was born in Kercem, Gozo, a century and a half ago and baptised at St George’s parish church in Victoria.
On the 22nd of January 2000, the end of the diocesan informative process for the Beatification of Mother Margherita was celebrated, which was first started on the 4th of July 1988 in the Diocese of Gozo. This process is now being continued in Rome.
A miracle through the intercession of Mother Margherita is the next step that will lead to her beatification.
St George’s Parish said that “it is the time to pray and pray so that a miracle may lead towards the truly desired Beatification of this Gozitan Religious and Foundress.”
