Xaghra Council takes elderly residents to St Gregory's feastThe Xaghra Local Council organised a cultural outing for the elderly to the traditional feast of Saint Gregory celebrated in Zejtun Malta.

This was the fourth outing this year organised for the elderly who regularly attend the village Day Care Centre.

Saint Gregory’s feast was celebrated for the first time on the 12th of March 1543. On instructions by Bishop Domenico Cubelles, a procession was organised from Mdina Cathedral to the old Parish Church of Zejtun.

In past times, this feast was very important for the Maltese and tradition dictates that each groom vowed his bride that he will take her to Saint Gregory’s feast and procession soon after their wedding ceremony.
