The opening concert in this year’s 7th edition of ‘Gaulitana: A Festival of Music’ was held on Wednesday with an organ recital at St. Augustine Church, Victoria. The concert, entitled ‘Organ(ic) Clusters in a Cloister,’ featured British organist Robin Walker, who was making a return visit to the Gozo Festival after his appearance during the 5th edition in 2011.
Walker performed works by J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, Samuel S. Wesley, Max Reger, Louis Vierne and Frederick Frahm, bridging the late Baroque with the contemporary. An appreciative audience was in attendance led by the Festival’s artistic director Colin Attard and Augustinian Fr. Peter Paul Cachia – who avidly supports cultural events in his church.
Gaulitana continues today, Palm Sunday, at 7.30pm, with a violin duo recital by Hungarians David Lang and Emese Toth at the Bishop’s Curia Hall in Victoria. All concerts are free of charge.
