Conclave to select new Pope begins on Tuesday afternoon

The eighth General Congregation met this evening to vote on the date to begin the Conclave. The Vatican has said that the cardinals gathered in Rome voted to begin the Conclave to elect a new Pope on Tuesday afternoon.
Only those under the age of 80 are eligible to vote and the Vatican said that the 115 cardinal-electors will start the Conclave following morning Mass.
At a press conference at the Vatican this morning, Fr. Lombardi, the Director of the Holy See press office, noted that today is International Women’s Day and offered a bouquet of Mimosas with a rose to a female journalist in representation of all women in keeping with the custom in the Vatican to give flowers to the women who work in the Holy See today.
