A meeting was held recently at the Headquarters of the Gozo Football Association (GFA) which was attended by representatives from all the Gozitan clubs. Present for the meeting was the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono who told those present that “the Government had allocated half a million euros to be used for the improvement of football grounds across the island.”
The Minister added that this would mean that Gozo would have three full size pitches with synthetic turf, along with smaller ones. “This is another testament to the commitment of the Government in aid of the sports sector in Gozo,” the Minister said.
“Through this financial assistance there will be further development in the facilities at the Gozo Stadium, particularly in the VIP Area, several synthetic turf pitches along with other projects.” The Gozo Minister continued, “all this will offer a higher level of football by May 2014 with no less than four matches for the finals of the UEFA U/17 Championship.”
The President of the GFA Mr Alvin Grech accompanied by senior officials from the Association were present at the meeting. Mr Grech thanked the President of the Malta Football Association, Mr Norman Darmanin Demajo, for the discussions that were instrumental in achieving this agreement.
