Following a competitive bidding process resulting in significant investment, Melita said it has yet again acquired an exclusive media rights package to broadcast the most prestigious European football club competitions – the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup – from 2009 to 2012.
The company said that the successful conclusion of these negotiations enables Melita to continue delivering live and exclusive coverage of every UEFA competition on 8 Melita Sports channels, as well as a level of exposure on one of the basic tier channels thus providing all Melita subscribers with an opportunity to view top level European football, as from 2009-2010 season. The package includes rights across all Melita’s platforms – TV, internet and mobile.
Live coverage includes all UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup fixtures, match highlights and the weekly magazine programmes.
The media rights agreement was signed by Mr. Stephen Wright, Melita’s Chief Operations Officer and the representatives of TEAM which representative UEFA in the negotiation of media rights.

Over the last 3 seasons, Melita provided all the thrilling Champions League action to thousands of Maltese households. Winning this competitive bid for the following 3 seasons up to 2012, has confirmed Melita, once more, as ‘Home of the Champions’. Acquiring UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup media rights is definitely another step in fulfilling our promise to provide the best live and exclusive sports content to our customers.” In a statement, UEFA said “We are delighted to announce the renewal of our partnership with Melita. Melita is a proven broadcast partner of UEFA and we welcome the opportunity to continue to work with them during the next rights cycle.”
