Gozitan artist Rachel Galea is exhibiting her 4th solo exhibition, ‘Landscape Expressions,’ at the Banca Giuratale, Independence Square, Victoria, Gozo. Featuring in this exhibition is a collection of expressive landscape paintings.
Describing the exhibition Rachel said, “in this series of scenes mostly taken from where I now live, you find a sort of dramatic intensity and dynamic tension of varied atmospheric conditions. Although my work is guided by a strong awareness of the formal qualities in painting: line, shape, colour and form, besides I believe that intention should be absent from painting in order to achieve the most spontaneous result. The landscapes become also a visual reference to the self.”
“The landscapes are actually an interaction of the constant development which arises from the various layers of colour and light, concept and reality and metamorphosis of nature.” Rachel said that her aim is not to set the subject into a reflective state of enlightenment where a presence can only be found and forgetting about the self but the presence of her paintings evolves from the process and created by the open meaning of the scene.
Rachel works from her studio at home in Victoria. She works in a variety of media and a range of topics producing some fantasy, abstract and landscape painting. Her personal style has developed over a number of years and her work can sometimes be “conceptual and others more impressionistic.”
‘Landscape Expressions,’ starts this coming Friday, the 22nd of February and will remain open until Sunday, the10th of March.
Opening hours for the exhibition are Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 2.30pm, Saturday from 7.00am to 12.00pm and Sunday from 8.00am to 12.00pm.
