The Xaghra Local Council organised various activities to take place in the village over this weekend for Carnival 2013.
The cold weather failed to dampen the spirits of those present and on Sunday morning Carnival band marches were played by the Victory Band of Xaghra, they started from the area of Ta’ Kola Windmill in Bambina Street, continued along Frangisk Camilleri Street, Imqades Street, 8th September Avenue and then arrived in Victory Square. The main Carnival programme then got into full swing in Victory Square, with a defile of Carnival floats, followed by dances by local companies and the traditional kumittiva dance. These included the company by Doris Bugeja, the Carnival float made by Geroge Zammit and Ryan Azzopardi (Labonski Company), the company of Josephine Farrugia and Odette Camilleri, the company of Marita Caruana, the Girls’ Secondary School (Agius De Soldanis), Saint Francis School, the Leone Philhamonic Society’s dance company, the grotesque masks by Joseph Camenzuli (Gharb) and Nadur Primary School.
The children at the Carnival had great fun courtesy of Xaghra Coucnil, with Mickey and Minney mascots.
The ever popular prinjolata was given out free of charge to the audience.
The popular Maltese singer Renato together with Francesca Zarb presented the afternoon’s festivities.
A short speech of thanks was given by Xaghra Mayor, Joe Cordina at the conclusion of the Carnival festivities, to all who took part, to everyone that attended the fun and particularly to all those who had helped in the organisation of the Carnival activities.
