Cultural Heritage MaltaHeritage Malta, through its Institute of Conservation and Management of Cultural Heritage (ICMCH), will be organising a conference on the 15th of September 2008 at the St Angelo Hall at the Maritime Museum in Vittorisa. This conference, which is being supported by the University of Malta and Bournemouth University, is being coordinated by a group of students who are completing a Masters degree in Management of Cultural Heritage.

Entitled ‘Rethinking Cultural Heritage: Challenges and Dilemas’, the conference will give an opportunity to undergraduate and post-graduate students as well as recent graduates to present their research in cultural heritage related disciplines, with a focus on heritage sites, and new insights and approaches related to their management. Through a number of case studies, the progress and level of success of the management and conservation of cultural heritage sites can be evaluated. The information acquired can be used to improve, develop and introduce new methods of management and protection of cultural sites. The study of cultural heritage management is approached by means of various disciplines. These include archaeology, architecture, conservation-restoration, history of art, geography, management, urban planning, geoarchaeology, photography as well as other documentation practices. Scientific areas, such as chemistry and biology, are also contributing to the management of cultural heritage sites.

Participants from various countries will be presenting papers and posters during the full-day conference which has already attracted interest from various foreign participants.

Given that this international conference is targeting undergraduate and post graduate students, the registration fee has been set at a nominal €25 per participant which is inclusive of all conference documentation and lunch.
