The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) Council would like to express its surprise at Hotel prices referred to in an article which appeared in yesterday’s publication of The Times Business supplement where the author is claiming that the average rate of a three star hotel in Malta is of €135 a night.
From surveys MHRA conducts on a quarterly basis amongst its members in Gozo and Malta, the only category of hotels that come close to charging such average rates are the 5 star hotels in peak summer. Definitely the rates of 3 star hotels are much lower and closer to an average of €60 per room per night on bed and breakfast sleeping two persons.
It was good to note in the same article that Malta fairs well when compared to the other 26 countries within the European Union with regards to cost of three course meal, cost of beer and the cost of wine.
