During the Festa week and the celebrations of the special festivities on the occasion of the 1750th anniversary of the martyrdom of St Lawrence, the parish pf San Lawrenz published a book that should be of interest to all those who have at heart literature, culture, liturgy and the cult of the saints in our country.
This book “Lawrenz: Xhud ta’ Kristu u Qaddej tal-Knisja” (Lawrence: Witness of Christ and Servant of the Church) has an introduction by President Emeritus Ugo Mifsud Bonnici and with various authors who are experts in matters related to the life of St Lawrence, amongst whom were Bishop Emeritus Nikol Cauchi, Fr Daniel Xerri, Fr Gino Gauci, Fr Joseph Sultana, Fr Injazju Borg, Lorenzo Zahra, Fr Geoffrey Attard and many others.
The book, which could be considered a small encyclopedia about the life of St Lawrence contains articles about the Martyrs in the Church and its teachings, the Relation of St Lawrence with the successors of Peter, St Lawrence in the writings of the Holy Fathers, St Lawrence in the cult of the Martyrs and the Liturgy, St Lawrence in Literature, Philately and Iconography and also the devotion of St Lawrence in Malta and Gozo. These writing were published in periodicals and were distributed around to the houses during the months of January and August and have now been bound into a book.
Pieces of art which come from different parts of the world are also included in the book, and they all represent the figure of St Lawrence, which figure will always be connected not only with the history of the church but also with the love this saint had towards the most needy and above all the terrible martyr he suffered on the grid.
Whoever wishes to obtain this book, which is published in colour and costs €15, should contact the San Lawrenz Parish Office on telephone number 21556073 or the Parochial Collegiate of St Lawrence in Birgu on 21827057
