In a press conference held recently, at the Malta Tourism Authority offices in Valletta, Renaissance Productions Limited (RPL) in collaboration with the MTA launched the 2nd edition of the TV Moda Malta International Fashion Show which will be held on the 5th July in Gozo. This edition of the TV Moda fashion show is being held under the patronage of the Ministry for Gozo and the Parliamentary Secretariat for Tourism.
Dr Anton Tabone, director of RPL, said that this top quality event will certainly continue to raise the profile of the Maltese Islands in the Italian market and overseas. TV Moda runs 24/7 and a publicity spot featuring Gozo shall be running every hour for the entire month of June, culminating with the spectacular show on the 5th of July when a feature about Gozo will also be broadcast.
Dr Mario de Marco, Parliamentary Secretary for tourism, stated that “backing such events is a part of the Government’s and the MTA’s ongoing strategy of an integrated marketing approach and a drive to promote Malta overseas as a quality destination”. The fact that this year’s Fashion Show is taking place in Gozo is in line with the policy of actively promoting Gozo as a destination in it’s own right. Dr De Marco also highlighted recent successes where the Italian market and Gozo are concerned. The Parliamentary Secretary revealed that in the first quarter of 2008, overnight stays in Gozo increased by 40% , whereas tourists from the Italian market increased by 44% over the same period in 2007, which as everyone recalls, was a record year. Linking Malta with such top quality events helps promote Malta and Gozo as quality destinations. With designers such as Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Valentino and local designers Charles and Ron, amongst others gracing the catwalk, the emphasis is on quality and beauty, two elements in which Gozo is certainly not lacking.
The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono said that, “Gozo’s charm lies in its authentic rural characteristics and natural beauty combined with its historic and traditional wealth”, echoed this sentiment. A top quality event like the TV Moda fashion show will certainly be at home in such beautiful surroundings.
Ms Jo Squillo the event organiser from TV Moda, was gushing with praise for Gozo’s all over beauty, saying she was “enchanted” by it’s authenticity and unique ambience, using adjectives such as “serenity and peace” to describe the Island. She said that she had fallen in love with Gozo and could imagine such shows all over the Island. Ms Squillo stated that TV Moda was viewed by around 2 million viewers in Italy alone, and has put Malta back on the Italian agenda, which with Italy being a core market is certainly an audience worth reaching. However, TV Moda is a channel with viewers all over the world with latest additions being Canada and the US.
The TV Moda, Malta International Fashion Show, taking place in St Augustine’s Square, Victoria, is certainly a top quality, glamorous event not to be missed.
