Health Division issues warning on ear candling

Health Division warning
The Public Health Regulatory Division has been informed that ear candling, a procedure used to remove ear wax, is being performed locally in a number of beauty salons.

The Division would like to draw the attention of the general public to the fact that ear candling treatment has been associated with potentially serious ear injuries and can therefore be dangerous.

Furthermore there is no evidence to support it’s effectiveness in removing wax.

The Division strongly recommends that compacted ear wax should only be removed by qualified health care professionals following examination of the ears by a medical practitioner to ensure there are no underlying problems with the ears.
