The Ghajnsielem F.C. recently held a supporters rally at its premises, where the committee announced that in the next few weeks the first phase of work, which is related with the structure, foundation and extension of the floor area will get underway.
There are three phases to the project, which is costing €250,00 and these are the foundation, synthetic turf and the ancillaries including floodlights and fencing. The first phase will start following the call for quotations, which was issued a few months ago.
The final size of the ground will be 80m by 49m. The committee said that all the necessary permits have been issued by MEPA, as well as approval received by the Agricultural Department for the removal of the current trees, to be replaced by a number of cypress trees.
The project is being designed and managed by Architect Godwin Sultana.
During the rally, Minister Dr. Chris Said presented €30,000 towards the project to the Committee from the Good Causes Funds.
Also present for the event was GFA President Alvin Scicluna and Ghajnsielem Mayor Francis Cauchi.
The Club President Alex Spiteri thanked all the supporters of the project including the MFA which are funding the costs of the artificial turf in the region of €100,000 and the Ministry for Gozo which donated €20,000.
Secretary Clint Azzopardi said that a number of fundraising events will be held in the next few weeks.
