A sunny day at San Blas in Nadur for the Feast of St BlaiseA beautiful sunny day welcomed the crowds of people to join in the celebration of the Feast of St Blaise, which took place on Sunday at San Blas bocci pitch in Nadur, Gozo.

A march with the Mnarja Youth Band at 10.00am got the celebration underway and this was followed by a concelebrated Mass led by Mgr Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo accompanied by Rev. Jimmy Xerri and other priests, at 10.30am.

St Blaise is the Patron Saint of those with maladies of the throat and a blessing of the throat followed Mass, for all those who were present for the occasion.

A blessing was also given to the agricultural produce from local farmers, as well as pets and animals.

St Blaise was a 3rd century physician who became the Bishop of Sebastea in Armenia. He was beheaded in A.D. 316 for refusing to renounce his faith. He is also the Patron Saint of wild animals because of his care for them.

The Church on the 3rd of February marks the official feast day of St Blaise.

The Nadur Local Council collaborated with the organisers in the organisation of this event.
