The sailing boat ‘Mischief’ was the overall winner of The BOV Spring Series 2008, a series of three sailing races held between March and April 2008, organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club and sponsored by Bank of Valletta. Mischief won the second and third races after failing to finish the first race.
The first race around Comino was marred by tricky windless conditions and only ArtieGo, skippered by Lee Satariano managed to make it to the finish. Mischief, Captained by Martin Meachen won the second and third races, with Timeout coming in second in the same races. Mischief was the overall winner of the BOV Spring Series 2008, followed closely by Timeout and Sailaway.
Mark Marmara, Manager CSR & Quality at Bank of Valletta presented the trophies to the winning captains during a ceremony held at the Royal Malta Yacht Club in the presence of Commodore George Bonello DuPuis.
Congratulating the winners, Mr Marmara said, “The BOV Spring Series is now in its 6th edition. We are pleased to be part of this event and our support for the past 6 years has helped us strengthen our presence within this important sport, especially with the close collaboration we have with the Malta Royal Yacht Club.”
Thanking Bank of Valletta for its ongoing support, Commodore DuPuis said, “Being surrounded by the sea, it is only natural for such sport to be so popular around the Maltese Islands. We are experiencing a higher level of competition at each event, with more people taking up the sport and participating in competitive racing. This year’s event was another success and it augurs well for future competitions of this nature.”
