Nationalist Party leader, Lawrence Gonzi has reaffirmed the Party’s “unshakeable commitment to Gozo” in a speech to those gathered for the 42nd annual ‘Ikla tal-Hbieb’ (meal amongst friends) held at the Calypso Hotel in Marsalforn on Sunday, which, the Party said is an important feature in its annual calendar.
“Successive Nationalist Governments have worked hard to secure the continuing development and improvement of Gozo’s infrastructure and economy and the strengthening of Gozitans’ standard of living and quality of life,” Dr Gonzi said.
Lawrence Gonzi promised to continue working hard over the next five years to maintain and to accelerate Gozo’s rate of development and advancement generally.
Focusing on tourism, Lawrence Gonzi assured Gozitans that the Nationalist Party had clear plans and strategies designed to increase Gozo’s share of the country’s success in tourism and to ensure that Gozitans reap the benefits in real terms.
Dr Gonzi said that the Nationalist Party shall also be particularly focused on: the creation of more and better jobs in Gozo; increasing five star hotel accommodation in Gozo; further developing a conference industry in Gozo; assisting and incentivising small and medium sized businesses operating in and from Gozo – particularly by means of a generous tax exemption for start-up business in Gozo.
“A Regional Council to be constituted would also give Gozitans a real voice in the administration of their Island.”
