The centre of every Christmas is definitely the little crib with Baby Jesus and at Gozo College Zebbug Primary, all the children were encouraged to create cribs made from recycled materials of all sorts – used paper, newspapers, plastic, caps, wood, tyres, dried leaves, corks, egg cartons, bread, etc…
The eco-crib exhibition was opened and blessed by Fr Reuben Micallef, Zebbug Archpriest. Parents and relatives visiting the school on the Christmas Concert Day had the opportunity to marvel at the simplicity but effectiveness of creating the right Christmas spirit with daily recyclable materials.Prior to the Christmas recess, the children took their cribs to the Philarmonic Society of Santa Marija band club where they were again warmly encouraged and praised for their effort, cooperation and values and the President of the Philharmonic Society, Mr George Cefai and the committee members of the society treated all the children and teaching staff to some very welcome refreshments.
The school said that its vision and policy is to appreciate rather than judge, cooperate rather than compete, strongly affirm, celebrate and incessantly empower children through various cross-curricular activities, including the EkoSkola Committee, “thus instilling more self-esteem and self-confidence in the children, thus enabliing them to act both independently and as a team in a self-disciplined manner on a local, regional and national level.”
