German Malteser vans donated to Arka Foundation in GozoThe Arka Foundation Director, Mgr E. Curmi, was recently presented with two vans donated by the German Malteser Hilfsdienst, Fulda. Four personnel from Fulda travelled overland to deliver the vans to the Arka Respite Centre in Ghajnsielem, Gozo. These vans will replace those that have been in use for the last 25 years.

Fr. Curmi’s contacts with the Malteser Association have now existed for over 30 years. Throughout this time the Association has made similar donations of vans which have proved to be highly beneficial for the transportation of persons with disability and their families, thus increasing the possibilities of better access and integration..

Mgr. Curmi expressed his sincere thanks to Herr Thomas Peffermann as well as to Ms Snjezana Jancic who had made all the necessary arrangements for this donation of vans. He also thanked Mr Joe Galea who for the last 30 years served as representative for the Malteser Association in Malta.

The Director of the Arka Foundation promised continuous prayers to all benefactors of Arka.

While sending my best wishes to all, may I also mention Prof Giovann Pace KM and HE the Countess Von Strauswich who 30 years ago had started the connections with (Malteserordens) the Order of Malta in Germany, and thanks to them the first 3 vehicles could be delivered for the St John’s Foundation for Gozo, then the Order of Malta’s peripheral organisation in Gozo. 2 of these vehicles were eventually used by the Ghaqda Ghwdxija Persuni b’ Dizabbilita’ (now Arka) while the third vehicle remained registered on the St John’s Organisation until the formation of the Gozo Volunteers of the Order of Malta then founded by the Principal Chaplain of SMOM Mgr John Dimech (RIP). May I also commend the Maltese Association of SMOM which annually pays Euro 5,000 to Malteser International and other organs of the Order for the continuous hospitaller works in Malta and around the world.
