The Malta Transport Authority (ADT) is taking further action against local councils who are found to have carried out works that do not conform to the permits.
In a letter sent to the Victoria local council, the Authority has informed the council that a site inspection of the upgrading works at Victoria’s Kennedy Square has revealed that there are some unacceptable technical defects.
These defects include areas of segregation, cracks, areas of irregularity, as well as a lack of sealing between the asphalt layer and other materials.
Furthermore, the Authority said that the designs it had approved comprise an elliptical mountable traffic island, but the one constructed by the local council is triangular in shape and therefore has to be amended. In addition, the footways at the parking edges are to be chamfered, the Authority said.
The Authority has given the Victoria local council fifteen days to rectify the works, if the necessary rectification work is not carried out the Authority said it will undertake the works itself at the full expense of the Victoria local council.
