The island starts to comes to life, becoming green and lush once more after the first rains for some months and the farmers are busy working their fields and plots, growing a cornucopia of vegetables for the winter table. For walkers this is a perfect time of the year to visit the island, each journey out on foot is accompanied by the heady Mediterranean scent of the wild fennel that towers above the side of the roads and paths, wild iris and myrtle are also to be seen in great abundance.
The smell and taste of the colourful clover and thyme dotted all around around the island will soon be finding its way into the jars of local honey, via the plentiful ancient wooden beehives.
These wonderful sights, sounds and scents of Gozo during the Autumnal season are some of the many reasons that visitors from around the world are attracted to this idyllic island.
