Third edition of the Figs Festival underway in Xaghra village

Xaghra Local Council is holding its third edition of the Xaghra Figs Festival aimed at promoting Maltese figs and its produce.
Comune di San Michele Salentino in Italy has sent a delegation of 16 people to participate in the weekend’s events. The Xaghra Local Council is twinned with this council in Italy.
Xaghra Council said that it is the only Maltese council which is a member of the ficusnet network which is a network of European towns and cities which produce figs as one of their typical products.
On Saturday morning, for the first time, an international conference was held on methods of cultivation and uses of figs. On Saturday evening, there will be a musical concert by ‘The Voodoo Gurus’ band in Victory Square.
The festival concludes on Sunday with an exhibition of fig produce and other typical products in Victory Square, when there will an opportunity to buy the products on display.
Among the exhibits will be biskuttini tar-rahal, carob syrup, local pies and other traditional food and sweets. The exhibition will be accompanied by traditional folk music by Ta’ Verna Folk Band and Xaghra Folk Group.
This annual exhibition in Xaghra, is expected to attract large crowds for this evenings concert and tomorrow concluding exhbition and traditional folk music.
