The Gozo Youth Orchestra within the Gozo Youth Wind Band & Orchestra have successfully staged The Gozo Youth Orchestra in Concert, on Sunday the 30th of March at the Oratory Don Bosco.
This concert marked the 5th Anniversary since its inception (2003-2008). The Orchestra consists mainly of 50 Gozitan Youths who after having pursued their musical studies both in Gozo and Malta on an individual basis, meet regularly in group to prepare an exciting and varied repertoire to be performed later on in concerts throughout the year.
A numerous audience attended the concert and they were entertained to an appealing repertoire including Richard Strauss’ Themes from Also Sprach Zarathustra, selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Musicals, Pirates of the Caribbean, Music from John Williams’ Soundtracks, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago and Gladiator.
The Orchestra was under the direction of Founder and Music Director Joseph Grech. Patrons were also presented with a spectacle of light effects that complimented the colourful repertoire and later treated to an after-concert reception.
This event was held as part of the Gozo Attractions Incentive Scheme by the Ministry of Gozo in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance through the National Lotteries Good Causes Fund as main sponsors. Further support was provided by Gozo Cultural Council within the Ministry for Gozo.
