Xaghra ceremony commemorates the Great Siege of Malta

Next Friday, the 7th of September, Xaghra Parish, in conjunction with Xaghra Local Council is organising a ceremony to commemorate the Great Siege of Malta. The event will take place in Victory Square, Xaghra.
The ceremony will start at 9.00am with a Solemn Thanksgiving Mass led by Archpriest Carmelo Refalo.
This will be followed at 10.00am with a re-enactment by the Xaghra Historical Re-enactment Organisation. This ceremony includes the triumphal entry of Grandmaster Jean Parisot de la Valette and the proclamation of the 8th September as a National Holiday in Malta.
There will also be a speech by Joseph Hili and the ceremony ends with the laying of wreaths in front of the Great Siege monument which will be temporarily set up in Victory Square.
The XHRO is a non-profit organisation whose purpose is to commemorate the Great Siege of Malta on the 7th September in Xaghra Gozo. This organisation is devoted to the promotion of the main historical events related to Xaghra. It seeks to reenact a specific event in history by the incorporation of activities and dress into an interactive presentation that seeks to give the observers a sense of stepping back in time.
