Gozo Chamber President elected Vice-President of Insuleur

Mr Michael Grech and Mr Joseph Borg, President and Vice-President respectively of the Gozo Business Chamber attended the Annual General Asssembly of Insuleur held recently at Mytilene, island of Lesvos, Greece. The Gozo Business Chamber has been a member of Insuleur (Reseau des Chambres de Commerce et d’Industrie Insulaires de l’U.E. – Network for the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Islands of the E.U.) for the last twelve years.
During this meeting a workshop on maritime cabotage (short sea shipping) was held. Members were presented with the experience of the Greek islands, Sardinia, the Balearic Islands and the island of Bornholm in Denmark.
Mr Michael Grech also addressed the meeting and gave explanation on the service being provided between the islands of Gozo and Malta by Gozo Channel Co. Ltd. under a PSO agreement. He also briefed the assembly on the Chamber’s and Government’s recent proposal of having a subsea tunnel between the two islands and the progress being registered on this project, which proposal was met with interest and appreciation by the members present.
The General Assembly also made amendments to its statute and confirmed Mr Juan Gual as President of Insuleur. Mr Michael Grech was also appointed First Vice-President of Insuleur after the Gozo Business Chamber had been Secretary of the Assembly for the previous term of office.
