Man dies after getting into difficulties swmimming at Ramla

Gozo’s Emergency Response and Rescue Corps said that a man died at Ramla Bay earlier this evening after finding himself in difficulties while swimming.
The ERRC were first alerted to the incident at around 6.00pm this evening.
The man. was aged 42 and from Xaghra. His body was taken ashore by a lifeguard of the ERRC, who gave him basic life support, but tragically without success. The Lifeguards were assisted at the scene by the Police Force, paramedics of the Gozo General Hospital and members of the Civil Protection Department who were all quickly on site.
The Emergency Response and Rescue Corps has expressed its deep condolences to the relatives of the victim.
The Corps run the lifeguard service on a daily basis at Ramla. The service is possible due to financial support from the Malta Tourist Authority. Support is also being provided by the Ministry for Gozo – ECO Gozo, Transport Malta and the Civil Protection Department.
